Tea, scones, cupcakes: ReAfternoon tea recipes to get you in the mood for Downton Abbey: A New Era
Written by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes and directed by Simon Curtis, the new film takes the story back to 1928 and takes part in the action in the south of France. The cast includes all the expected regulars of the series, including Hugh Bonneville as Robert Crawley, Elizabeth McGovern as Cora Crawley and Maggie Smith as Violet Crawley. Expect some self-centered humor, as part of the plot revolves around a film crew opening a shop at Downton Abbey, the Crawley family estate.
Admittedly, the elaborate family dramas at the heart of all iterations of Downton Abbey can be a bit overwhelming for newcomers or even those who haven’t seen the earlier film or episodes of the original series in a while.
