Penn State Learning Announces Summer Academic Support Plan

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Learning, the multi-subject learning and writing center on the University Park campus, will be offering math and writing tutoring May 23-June 23 during Summer Session 1 and July 5-August 11 during the summer at session 2.

math tutoring

Peer Tutors are available Monday through Thursday from 12:00pm to 5:00pm for Math 004 to Math 141 and from 12:00pm to 2:30pm for Math 220 to Math 252 for personal tutoring in the Sparks Building 7.

Remote peer math tutors are also available Monday through Thursday evenings. Students can register for appointments through Starfish.

write tutoring

Peer writing tutors are available Monday through Thursday from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. for in-person drop-in tutoring at The Writing Center @ Penn State Learning at the 220 Boucke Building

Students can also register for online synchronous appointments via Starfish (available on the days and times listed above).

The Writing Center @ Penn State Learning also offers asynchronous writing tutoring. With this option, students submit a detailed form along with their writing and then receive feedback from the tutors within three days of submission. This option is for students who like to plan ahead and want feedback on multiple drafts, or for whom synchronous tutoring times are simply impractical. Beginning May 23, students can request online tutoring for asynchronous writing via this link.

Writing teachers are encouraged to request class visits or workshops from writing teachers.

Workshop “Learn easier”.

A two-hour “Study Smarter Metacognitive Strategies” workshop for college transitions will be offered beginning May 18 on 10 dates throughout the summer. This workshop provides an introduction to college-level learning and will be delivered by peer tutors who have successfully made the transition themselves. The links to register and participate can be found on the Penn State Learning website.

guided learning groups

Students can participate in guided study groups where peer tutors review course materials and help students improve their problem-solving skills in a stimulating and challenging collaborative learning environment. These are very limited during the summer sessions, but there will be a study group for CHEM 112.

Please see the Guided Study Groups link for more information.
