For the first time in over 30 years, we have our own playoff version of the Battle of Alberta, with the Flames and Oilers starting their second round tonight.
Calgary almost lost
Jake Oettinger the Stars in the first round, heavily outplaying Dallas but needing seven games and overtime in Game 7 to progress. Johnny Gaudreau had the OT winner to send the Flames into the second round and finished the streak at the top of the team with seven points. Jacob Markstrom was phenomenal at the net, finishing the first round with a 1.51 GAA and 0.943 SV%.
Connor McDavid joined the Oilers in the first round and most notably in Game 7, almost single-handedly putting Edmonton past the Kings. His 14 points led all skaters in the first round, in addition to his 10 assists. Evander Kane had seven goals in as many games and Mike Smith was great in the crease with 2.29 GAA and .938 SV%.
It has all the makings of a physical, suspense filled series with hate on both sides already in Game 1.
